New
Service: Genome Analysis!
Ribocon now offers the analysis
of genomic and metagenomic data as a valuable
service based on a fully automatic bioinformatic pipeline.
The service includes advanced ORF finding, automatic
annotation, and
extended support on request, and has three clear advantages:
We guarantee maximum transparency
for later citation of the methods in your manuscripts as well as highest scientific
standard. Only standard tools accepted by the scientific community are applied.
The results are provided in a standard format for your full access. For easy exploration of the data, a database plus a powerful comparative analysis and search tool is supplied.
Please visit the Genome
Analysis page of our Services & Products
section for more information.

Ribocon
price marking modified!
All prices stated on the
Ribocon webpage are now given excl. VAT.
The motivation to change the prices indicated from gross to net
is based on Ribocon's world wide client base and the
variety of services/products offered, leading to a complex sales tax
situation. In many but not all cases we draw our invoices without
adding German VAT. Therefore, we decided
to now exclusively
state net prices (excl. VAT) for better clearness and consistency.
In general, the following applies:
(1) 19% VAT will be added to the given net price in any case if you order
from inside Germany or use a service within Germany (e.g. a regular ARB
workshop in Bremen).
(2)
All deliveries are charged without VAT (no addition to given net price)
if they leave Germany (intra-communty supply of goods within the European
Community/tax-free export for all
other countries - e.g. ARB installation CD).
(3)
In all other cases, potential addition and amount of VAT (German or of your
own country) depends on the kind and the location of the service.

Registration
procedure for regular ARB workshops changed!

So far, users who have
officially registered for our regular ARB workshops in Bremen,
Germany, but didn't get a place (number of participants
is limited to 10) were added to a waiting list. With this, we had offered
a preemption for the upcoming workshop.
However, this privilege turned out to be time consuming (not
more than ten people can be contacted per pass), inefficient, and finally
not completely comprehensible for the users.
Therefore, we have decided to modify the registration procedure. It now
works again on a simple first come, first serve basis. In case you are
not among the first ten applicants, you will still be added
to a list. But users on this list will just informed about the next
workshop date few days before it will offcially be announced. From here,
registration is again based on a first come, first serve basis (no preemption
including consideration time).
Please notice that all users normally need some time to recheck the announced
date of the workshop and to clarify funding. The courses are not booked
up within few days so there is no need to get nervous about this modification!
We hope to increase fairness within the registration procedure and
ask for your understanding.

SILVA database
project officially announced!
Today, the SILVA rRNA sequence
database project which can be accessed via
www.arb-silva.de was "officially" announced
via the ARB User Mailing list encompassing more than 500 users worldwide.
SILVA (latin, "silva"=forest) provides comprehensive, quality
checked and regularly updated databases of aligned small and large subunit
(SSU & LSU) ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequences for all three domains of life
(Bacteria, Archaea and Eukarya).
They are virtually split into the reference "Ref" databases that only
contain high
quality, full length sequences and the comprehensive "Parc" databases with all "good" sequences
longer than 300 nucleotides.
The databases are primarily designed to supplement the ARB software package.
The SILVA project based on an automatic software pipeline and ongoing
manual dataset curation is a cooperation of the
Microbial Genomics Group at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
in Bremen, the Department of Microbiology at the Technical University
Munich, and Ribocon.
Comprehensive
support related to ARB and SILVA is offered
by Ribocon.

in the Netherlands and in Switzerland.
The next regular four day
Extended Basic ARB
workshop in Bremen ( details
here) will not be offered
before early summer 2007.
A concrete date is not yet fixed.
However, if additional people in your institution are working with ARB
