New version of our Automatic Linux + ARB installation system ARBuntu 3.0 released

Finally, it's done! After extensive optimization and testing we have a fully operational ARBuntu 3.0 system available. It is based on the recent stable ARB release 5.1 from October 2009 and an updated Linux system (Kubuntu 9.04) to assure maximum hardware compatibility. The new ARBuntu system comes as a DVD and not a CD anymore and will be offered in multiple flavours. At the moment, you can order the standard 32-bit edition but also a 64-bit version is in preparation.

Ribocon builds web tool for high-quality rRNA-based identification of pathogens

Initiated by the Molzym GmbH and connected to their SepsiTest technology, Ribocon has realized a web tool called SepsiTest BLAST for the fast and easy identification/classification of 16S/18S rRNA gene sequences based on all type strains (described reference culture of a species) publicly available.

Set-up of SepsiTest BLAST was primary motivated by medical relevant questions but the system can also be used for other kinds of rRNA-based surveys because of the completeness of the database (>7.000 fully classified rDNA sequences). Whenever you want to easily identify smaller sets of rRNA gene sequences, presumably affiliated with clusters of cultivated microorganisms, SepsiTest BLAST should be your choice.

Just upload your query sequence in FASTA or ABI format and within seconds you will get the information if and which next relatives are available. Compared to NCBI BLAST, SepsiTest BLAST contains only entries relevant for rDNA-based sequence information. Plus quality checks!
