Ribocon combines two terms central to our philosophy; RIBOsome and CONsultancy. The ribosome transforms information (genes) into cellular building blocks and tools (proteins) and symbolizes Ribocon's mission of turning sequence data into knowledge.
One of the ribosome's building blocks (the rRNA) also forms the basis of microbial detection, identification and classification - one of our core competencies.
In our role as consultants, we provide services, products, and training to partners in industry and academia worldwide from our headquarters in Bremen, Germany.
The Ribocon team of biologists, computational biologists, and computer scientists is highly experienced in microbial DNA sequence analysis (function, diversity, diagnostics) and using and developing bioinformatics tools and databases.
Although there are no laboratories at Ribocon, our scientists are competent in all common experimental techniques used for microbial and genomic analysis, such as quantitative in situ detection methods (FISH) and DNA microarrays.

Grounded in 2005, Ribocon is a fully independent spin-off from the Microbial Genomics & Bioinformatics Group, Department of Molecular Ecology at the
Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany.
