    The Ribocon GmbH Bremen is a professional bioinformatics service provider in microbiology, serving academia and industry worldwide, acting in the fields of Environmental & Clinical Microbiology as well as Biotechnology. The company was founded in 2005 as a spin-off of the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany. Access to cutting-edge computer-based DNA analysis is mediated by a broad spectrum of services including data analysis, software and web-development, training and support, as well as customized hardware solutions. Ribocon is focussed on the identification and phylogenetic analysis of microorganisms, including recent high-throughput approaches, as well as on the functional analysis of microbial genomes and metagenomes. Together with the MPI-Bremen, Ribocon has build and maintains Europe's largest databases for ribosomal RNA sequences, see Opens external link in new windowwww.arb-silva.de, the genetic marker of choice for microbial identification purposes and biodiversity analysis. Ribocon is involved in a number of academic projects and actively contributes to the development of freely available software.
