As a partner of the project Molecular Ecology and Evolution of Bacterial Symbionts (Symbiomics), Ribocon developes high-quality ribosomal RNA gene datasets for the analysis of diversity and biogeography of bacterial symbionts, and educates researchers in their early career. The Symbiomics project is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission and represents an Initial Training Network (ITN) of a Marie-Curie Action.
As a partner of the project Microbial Interactions in MArine Systems (MIMAS), Ribocon does software and database development for the integration of (meta)genome, transcriptome and evironmental data. MIMAS is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and involves the leading institutions of German Marine Research.
In cooperation with the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, Ribocon has build and now maintaines the SILVA rRNA Database Project. SILVA represents one of the two main rRNA gene databases in the world.
