Software development
As a partner of the project MaCuMBA (Marine Microorganisms: Cultivation Methods for Improving their Biotechnological Applications), Ribocon is setting up an adapted bioinformatics infrastructure for the analysis and the mining of genomic and metagenomic sequence data in the course of the project task. The MaCuMBA consortium is funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission and brings together 23 partners from 11 countries including 9 SMEs.
As a partner of the project MIMAS (Microbial Interactions in MArine Systems), Ribocon has done software development for the integration of (meta)genome, transcriptome and evironmental data. MIMAS was supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and involving the leading institutions of German Marine Research.

Service infrastructure
In collaboration with the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany, Ribocon has build and maintains the SILVA rRNA gene database project. SILVA represents one of the two main rRNA gene databases in the world.
Training
Within the project Micro B3 (Biodiversity, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology), funded by the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission, Ribocon is organising and operating training courses in bioinformatics for academic and SME partners of the consortium. These activities are based on a long-term training experience as documented by recurring workshops conducted for the Marine Genomics Europe - Network of Excellence funded under the FP6 of the European Commission.
Education
As a partner of the project Symbiomics (Molecular Ecology and Evolution of Bacterial Symbionts), Ribocon educates trainees on the junior postdoc level by linking research on the analysis of diversity and biogeography of bacterial symbionts to industrial-grade software and database development. The Symbiomics project is funded within the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Commission and represents an Initial Training Network (ITN) of a Marie-Curie Action.
